ESERO Romania, hosted by the Romanian Space Agency, invites teachers and students to take part in the ESA Climate Detectives school project, which opens on 17 September 2025.
The initiative is designed to help students explore real climate issues while developing research and problem-solving skills. The main programme, ESA Climate Detectives, is open to students between the ages of 8 and 19. With the guidance of their teacher, each team identifies a climate-related problem that affects their local community. They then investigate it by analysing Earth Observation data from satellites or by collecting their own measurements on the ground. The process encourages critical thinking and teamwork, and the results are shared with the wider community, allowing students to see the impact of their work and learn how space science can contribute to solving global challenges.
Climate Detectives Kids (up to 12 years old) offers a simpler, non-competitive pathway. Instead of carrying out a full investigation, children complete a series of activities that introduce them to climate science in an engaging way. They earn badges as they progress, which makes the experience playful while still meaningful.
