The qualitative and quantitative deterioration of crops produced in the Thessalian plain has been a major problem in the last years, due to climate change and seasonal shift. On top of that, recent extreme weather phenomena revealed the lack of our providence in securing life and property. There has been a common belief that suppressing the natural water tracks provides more land to the people, hence more wealth. Is this to our greatest benefit or is it too big a risk to undertake? We examine the extent that poor harvesting and land degradation consist nature’s payback to our short-sighted water management.
