UHI – Torino
How strong is the urban heat island (UHI) effect in our city (Torino)?
We would like to investigate the urban heat island effect in our city (Torino). How strong is it? Can we measure and notice any differences with surrounding rural areas? Our goal is to investigate this effect, its causes, its consequences and maybe its connection with the Climate Change. We will compare the collected data (temperature, humidity, plants gemmation…) with historical data too, in order to sort out the impact of this local warming.
Cities
Our investigation:
– collecting data for about a month (temperature, humidity, rain, plants gemmation…) in different areas of the city and in surrounding areas, at different time of night and day (also with the help of the ARPA Piemonte – regional Agency for the environmental protection), maybe using self-made instruments with Arduino
– implementing real observations of the city in order to find a correlation between local warming and types of land cover
– analysing the collected data in order to produce graphs and visual representations of the measurements
– comparing the collected data with historical data in order to find significant differences involving global and local warming
– suggesting a solution
