Air pollution is the alteration of the natural chemical composition of the atmosphere, resulting from human activities, namely industrial activities, transport use, deforestation, but also from natural phenomena. This results in global warming/climatic changes and more localized degradation of the air we breathe in our area (Gondomar and surroundings).
The quality of the air reflects the level of change in the lower layer of the atmosphere – troposphere. This change has a negative impact on public health and on the well-being of the population, and also has a harmful influence on fauna, flora and even on the built heritage.
We believe that the existence of green spaces has a significant influence on air quality and on the parameters that govern the climate. We intend, therefore, to analyse the evolution of green spaces in the region, as well as the evolution of air quality and verify if there is any relationship between these 2 variables.
A poluição atmosférica é a alteração da composição química natural da atmosfera, resultante das atividades humanas, nomeadamente a industrial, a utilização de transportes, a desflorestação, mas também de fenómenos naturais. Daqui resulta o aquecimento global/alterações climáticas e degradação mais localizada do ar que respiramos na nossa zona (Gondomar e arredores).
A qualidade do ar traduz o nível de alteração da camada inferior da atmosfera – troposfera. Essa alteração repercute-se negativamente na saúde pública e no bem-estar das populações, exercendo também uma influência nefasta na fauna, flora e até no património edificado.
Julgamos que a existência de espaços verdes tem uma influência significativa na qualidade do ar e nos parâmetros que regem o clima. Pretendemos, desta forma, analisar a evolução dos espaços verdes da região, assim como a evolução da qualidade do ar e verificar se existe alguma relação entre estas 2 variáveis.

GREEN AREAS – It can be seen that the amount of green spaces in urban areas is small. This quantity only starts to be significant in the zone of Serra de Valongo.
METANO – Os dados do Sentinel mostram que há dias em que a concentração de metano é muito elevada, perto do valor máximo da escala de cores. Estes valores sugerem que apesar de residirmos numa zona com pouca pecuária, as suas emissões são significativas.
ESPAÇOS VERDES – Verifica-se que a quantidade de espaços verdes em zona urbana é reduzida. Essa quantidade só começaa ser significativa na zona da Serra de Valongo.
PROPOSALS FOR IMPROVEMENT
Regarding methane, we propose the inclusion of a diet for animals that reduces the production cycle, implying a meat with less carbon footprint.
We also propose the planting of more plant species, as we have already done in several areas of the school and municipality.

No que se refere ao metano, propomos a inclusão dum regime alimentar nos animais que reduza o ciclo de produção, implicando uma carne com menor pegada de carbono.
Propomos ainda a plantação de mais espécies vegetais, à semelhança do que já fizemos em várias zonas da escola e do concelho.
