Climate Detectives Projects 2022-2023

Project topic: Climate change

Project title: WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF SEA LEVEL RISE?

Team: 5éA Les Carolines

Research question

How fast will the sea rise? How will it affect maps and biodiversity?

Summary of the project
OUR CLASS

First we decided which climate problem we wanted to learn about, we chose sea level rise. Then our assigned expert gave us some feedback to lead our research.

We organized ourselves in groups and started our investigation. This were our main points:
Sea level causes
Sea level consequences: line coast
Sea level consequences: biodiversity
What can we do

We took different actions to make a difference, we share our research with the school community and families and we made some posters on recycled paper to make people aware of the importance of taking care of our planet earth.

Main results and Conclusions
RECORD TEMPERATURES IN VALENCIA

Sea level causes. The rise in sea level is mainly due to the ice melting favored by global warming. Global warming is caused by ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION. Our actions on earth leave a carbon footprint, we have learned how much pollute our different daily activities.
Sea level consequences: line coast. Sea levels will rise by up to 30 centimeters by 2050. The planet’s surface temperatures are rising. The average global temperature has increased at a rapid pace by 0.76 ºC. The countries most affected by climate change are Netherlands and Banlgadesh
Sea level consequences: biodiversity. Climate change is causing ocean warming and rainfall disruptions. This combination of factors usually worsens the effects of other human negative actions on the sea, resulting in the loss of marine biodiversity
What can we do? We can consume less energy and products, buy second hand clothes and electronics, eat less meat, try to buy local products or even grow our own vegetables, walk or bike around instead of driving and share our knowledge

What’s Next? Actions to make a difference and help lessen the problem
PLANTING TREES

PLANTING A TREE: Our first action was to plant trees near our school to celebrate ‘tree day’.
CLEANING A GREEN AREA: collect all the garbage we found in a forest area. We were on a rock climbing school activity, in the outdoors. So we took the chance to leave a cleaner forest. We even used reused biodegradable bags as gloves, we did no want to leave a plastic trace to clean a forest area!
MAKE RECYCLED PAPER: With our class paper waste, we made our own recycled paper and used it to make posters to raise awareness of the climate emergency with some green advices.
SCHOOL VEGGIE GARDEN: We are working on our own veggie garden!
GREEN SPRING CAMP: This year we choose a campsite that was focus on nature knowledge and climate change awareness raising.
