The starting point of the problem question will be to investigate the urban microclimate by identifying heat islands in the city, namely the Largo do Rato. It is intended to make students aware of local problems in terms of climate, identifying them using scientific data in order to propose changes / solutions in the pursuit of sustainable cities and communities, as recommended in SDG 11.
O ponto de partida da questão problema será investigar o micro clima urbano identificando-se ilhas de calor na cidade, nomeadamente o Largo do Rato. Pretende-se consciencializar os alunos para as problemáticas locais em termos climáticos, identificando-as com recurso a dados científicos de forma a se proporem mudanças / soluções na persecução de cidades e comunidades sustentáveis, conforme preconizado no ODS 11.
We came to the conclusion that the Largo do rato is effectively an urban heat island due to the higher average temperature values compared to other areas of the city. The main causes are: traffic and intense car traffic; lack of trees and green corridors; lack of green spaces; soil totally covered with asphalt and cement; As solutions we propose, after investigation: forestation of the space; creation of corridors and green spaces; creation of urban gardens; vertical gardens and green roofs; encouragement of more public transport, bicycle paths and areas for pedestrians to walk; porous asphalt for retention and storage of rainwater. We believe that our study will awaken in us a greater awareness of the environmental problems that have led to the worsening of climate change. With these changes, Largo do Rato would become a good example of sustainable practices with the reduction/elimination of the heat island, contributing at the same time, at a global level, to a reduction of our ecological footprint and the preservation of the environment of humanity.
Chegámos à conclusão que efetivamente o Largo do rato é uma ilha de calor urbano face aos valores médios de temperatura mais elevados face a outras áreas da cidade. As principais causas são: trânsito e intenso tráfego automóvel; falta de árvores e corredores verdes; falta de espaços verdes; solo totalmente coberto com asfalto e cimento; Como soluções propomos, após investigação: arborização do espaço; criação de corredores e espaços verdes; criação de hortas urbanas; jardins verticais e telhados verdes; incentivo de mais transportes públicos, ciclovias e áreas para peões andarem a pé; asfalto poroso para retenção e armazenamento de água das chuvas. Consideramos que o nosso estudo irá despertar em nós uma maior consciencialização para os problemas ambientais que têm levado ao agravamento das alterações climáticas. Com estas mudanças o largo do Rato tornar-se-ia um bom exemplo de práticas sustentáveis com a redução/eliminação da ilha de calor contribuindo, ao mesmo tempo, a nível global para uma redução da nossa pegada ecológica e preservação do ambiente da Humanidade.
