We observed that the coastline was disappearing due to a significant rise in sea level. Our working hypothesis was to study the rise in sea level along the coast of our town.
To do this we obtained aerial photographs of the area, comparing them from the 1950s to the present day (we were very fortunate to have such old photographs available due to the installation of the Rota Naval Base in the 1950s, as well as family photos and data from cadastral maps kindly offered by the town council, after having requested permission to do so from the Rota cadastral office). It should be noted that some of the measurements of the loss of coastline were made mathematically using the AutoCAD computer design programme.
We confirmed the hypothesis based on the elaboration of graphs and bar diagrams, with the data of the cartographic measurements obtained.
We have studied the damage and economic losses and have included them in our project (damage to street furniture, hotels and loss of plots of land on the beachfront, etc.).
We have related the phenomenon of sea level rise to global warming, since the study period is considered sufficiently long (approximately 80 years). We suspect that the loss of consta over time follows an exponential and non-linear pattern.
We have proposed several measures within our reach to try to mitigate this.

Observamos que la línea de costa estaba desapareciendo por un notable aumento del nivel del mar. Nuestra hipótesis de trabajo fue estudiar la subida del nivel del mar de la costa de nuestro pueblo.
Para ello hemos conseguido fotografías aéreas de la zona comparándolas desde los años cincuenta hasta la actualidad. (contábamos con la gran suerte de disponer de fotografías tan antiguas debido a la instalación en los años cincuenta de la Base Naval de Rota, además de fotos familiares y datos de mapas catastrales ofrecidos amablemente por el ayuntamiento, tras haber pedido permiso para ello a la oficina del catrasto de Rota. Cabe destacar que algunas medidas de la pérdida de costa están realizadas matemáticamente con el programa autocad de diseño por ordenador.
Confirmamos la hipótesis basándonos en la elaboración de gráficas y diagramas de barras, con los datos de las mediciones cartográficas obtenidos.
Hemos estudiado los daños y perdidas económicas plasmándolas en nuestro proyecto ( daños en mobiliario urbano, hoteles y pérdidas de parcelas en primera línea de playa, etc.
Hemos relacionado el fenómeno de subida de nivel del mar con el calentamiento global, puesto que el periodo de estudio se considera suficientemente amplio (80 años aproximadamente). Sospechamos que la pérdida de consta en el tiempo sigue un modelo exponencial y no lineal.
Hemos propuesto varias medidas a nuestro alcance para intentar paliarlo.
Nuestro logo representa dos cosas que queremos y cuidamos en Rota: el mar y nuestros camaleones (que se encuentran el peligro de extinción). Pero se pude ver en la presentación que he puesto enlazada.
