Project title: The weather magnifier on Ceceñas

Is there any evidence of climate change in Ceceñas?
In order to analyze the existence of a possible alteration in the climate in Ceceñas (Medio Cudeyo county), we evaluated the data collected on pollution (CO2) and temperature (Tª). The data collected by us were compared with the official records of the last 50 years. The idea was to conclude whether or not there is evidence of the existence of climate change in our environment. In addition, we collected data on the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere in three specific points of our center and in three different time slots in order to analyze whether the presence of motor vehicles significantly may affect air pollution.
The school is located in a rural setting, bordered to the south by a regional road (CA-161) and to the north by a local road.
The local road has hardly any traffic except at the school entrance and leaving time.
The CA-161 road has a constant flow of vehicles, which increases at rush hours related to schools and working hours in the surrounding área.
Due to our school location, we were interested to check how the vehicles flow could affect our environment. In order to know that, was important the comparation of the data obtained in different time slots (School entrance and leaving time, working days) and data collected at the time of the students break when there is a lack of traffic)
AIR POLLUTION
Regarding the concentration of CO2 on the local access road to the school at the time when secondary student arrive or leave,, we observed in the collected data, that the values were higher than the ones obtained during the students break, were the data collected were significantly lower.
After analyzing the data of the atmospheric pollution in the regional road CA-161, we observed that at 8:30 a.m. the values of CO2 were sligthly higher than in the other two simples taken. This could be related to the increase of vehicles circulation. Meanwhile the lowest CO2 concentration was observed during the students break.
TEMPERATURE
The values obtained in the daily temperature measurements have been considered to establish the average in the last month.
If we take into account Medio Cudeyo temperature values recorded in the last fifty we
observed the temperature increase, evidence of climate change. The average temperature
has risen approximately 1ºC all over Medio Cudeyo
CONCLUSIONS
After analyzing the results, it can be concluded that the CO2 concentration on the CA-161 regional road is higher than the one obtained on the local road. This significant increase between both testing points could be attributed to the fact that on the CA-161 there is a higher flow of vehicles throughout the day. While on the local road the circulation of vehicles takes place at school entry and leaving time.
The temperatura has raised in Medio Cudeyo in the last 50 years. In 1972 the average temperature was 13.4 °C. In 2023 the temperature has raised up to 14.5 °C
Despite the fact that our school is on an environmental privileged location (a non industrial área), we are committed to take actions in order to preserve and improve the environment that surrounds us.
Therefore, some actions are propposed to reduce the effects that atmospheric pollution has on our environment and directly affect the climate change we are suffering worldwide.
The first action proposed to reduce pollution is promoting the use of public transport. The school has a train station in front of one of the main entrances. In addition, the school has a bus route which collects students from surrounding áreas.
Installing a bike parking área would be possitive for the development of our environment friendly proyect. This could imply that the students living around the school would come to school by bike.
Finally, another proposals is to develop an application to be used by families living in the same neigborhood in order to organize parental pools to drive students to the school. This would reduce vehicles flow of the school entrance and leaving time. This could reduce emissions and could help to curb climate change.
