Project title:

Climate change and Lake Albano

Research question

How does the climate affect the level of the Lake Albano? Is there a special correlation with wildfires?

Identify the local environmental/climate problem you want to investigate

As temperature and rainfall changes the level of the Lake Albano will also change. Lake Albano is also a water resevoir for Canadair planes to fight local forest fires.

Project topic

Describe how you plan to investigate the problem identified and which data you plan to analyse.

Use satellite data to plot the diameter of the lake along a specific line as a function of the year (could do more frequently if the data permits this to view seasonal changes in the lake levels. Identify data on average temperatures over the same time intervals for the same are.

Do a Fermi calculation of the potential effect of forest fires on the lake’s level and if reasonable correlate the lake level with forest fires data. For example identify data of the surface area of forest burnt every year in the Lazio region.

Take a trip to the lake to identify visible signs of changes in the lake level.
