Climate Detectives Projects 2021-2022
Project title: SARGASSUM TO THE FRENCH WEST INDIES

How to eradicate this pollution ?
Every year the beaches of Guadeloupe are invaded by massive strandings of sargassum.
This leads to the destruction of the pelagic ecosystem and endangers the health of populations.
How can this be remedied ?
After modelling and simulating the sargassum accumulation zones from 2018 to 2021, we made a projection for April 2025 using two scenarios:
-if high volcanic activity –> extensive accumulation zone
-if low volcanic activity –> reduced accumulation zone.
We have proposed a few solution :
-creation of dams
-turn sargassum into syrup.
