Over the past century, the concentration of greenhouse gases has increased significantly, mainly due to human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and intensive agriculture. Forest fires are partly caused by deforestation, but climate change is increasing their size and frequency. Many plant and animal species will suffer due to habitat loss. However, the ashes of burnt organic material could be beneficial for plant regrowth. We investigated the effect of ashes on two plants species: spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) and ball thistle (Echinops ritro).
